Miss B

Don't let her stunning blue eyes and long blonde hair fool you that she is mild mannered.  This child...I heart her so much.  The things that she says!!!  She seriously has an amazing since of humor.

Last week, I asked her to go get the mail.  She obliged my request, came back inside and handed me the pile of mail only to declare, "There is nothing but a buttload of bills."  I laughed so hard.  Seriously...I am quite certain that she got that expression from her father.  Ha!  Keeping it real over at The Dahlhouse.  Happy Tuesday!

Life @ The Dahlhouse: Week 12

Week 12 began celebrating this little unicorn's 9th birthday!  Seriously...when did she turn 9!!!
Unicorns are her jive and I was more than happy to oblige her theme and personality.  Just give her all the unicorns and rainbows.
We had a small family party at our home to recognize all three of the March birthday club, along with the grandparents.
Everyone needed some candles to blow out...even Man Cub (who since has asked to do "happy to you" each time we have had dessert.

Bella's birthday was Barbie Palooza and literally every time I turn around....bam...another Barbie!  But I admit...I kind of really like it. I was a Barbie girl growing up and I enjoy all the tiny food, animals and dishes as much as B.

Man Cub keeps me on my toes...he is full of imagination and a strong will.  Haha

On Thursday of week 12, we went to see Luke give his presentation book comparison in his English class.  I was really proud of how he is able to speak in front of his peers.
I also got a much needed haircut in week 12.  Keeping up with 4 kiddos leaves little time to manage my hair and I found all I was doing was putting it up all the time.  So I had Christina cut it short.  It was like a weight was lifted and I am enjoying the lightness it brings.
Mark and Matthew took down his baby crib.  Matthew was my only baby that never tried to climb out of the crib.  Although, he did manage to climb into the crib and then  scream in protest for someone to come and rescue him.  It is bittersweet for me.  The last baby...the last crib...such happiness for new stages and such sadness for it passing too quickly.
The end of week 12 saw me beginning Man Cub's special education evaluation with the Battle Ground School District.  He had a screening a couple weeks ago and the multi-disciplinary team saw the same concerns in adaptive, communication and social-emotional areas.  So we have dove into the deep end and will hopefully have their decision soon.  In the meantime, we walk forward in hope.

Hawaiian Airlines: First Class Review

When we got married in 1999, our 20th anniversary seemed so far way.  But time has a way of going very quickly and just like that...20 years have gone by.  We had always talked about going to Hawaii for our 20th anniversary, and flying first class.  When you are married 20 years you celebrate BIG!
We used a combination of miles and money to purchase our first class tickets.  We both have a Hawaiian Airlines credit card and earn miles on purchases.  We flew to Maui last year with our entire family (of 6) and pooled all of those miles together.  We flew direct from PDX (Portland) to OGG (Kahului) on an Airbus 321neo like the one pictured below.

It is a single aisle aircraft; however, it feels bigger inside than a 737.  I also have flown coach on the 321neo last year and was very comfortable in economy with my kiddos...in the back (seriously like row 42).

I have to tell you we had so much fun flying first class!  The minute we sat down the flight attendant was handing out drinks.  We had our pick of a Mai Tai, guava juice and water.  I picked the guava juice, as 6:45am was a bit too early for a Mai tai.  Haha.  We relaxed back into our comfy seats (complete with pillow and a nice blanket) and listened to the Hawaiian music.

Every passenger was handed a menu of the flight's food selection.  We would be served brunch since it was an early morning flight.
Seriously...you all...the food NEVER stopped.  And it was all REALLY good!

Mark and I had plenty of room both in our leather seats and ample leg room.  My feet barely touched the floor (I am 5'6").  Each first class seat was equipped with a foot rest, and we both had our seats reclined the entire flight after take off.
(This is what the first class cabin looks like aboard the Airbus 321neo).  Our seats were on the right hand side (4H & 4J).

As soon as we were above 10,000 feet, the flight attendants were up and handing out iPad minis and noise cancelling headphones.  I have never worn noise cancelling headphones before...they were AMAZING!!!  I need some for around the house sometimes...LOL.  We had access to all the entertainment on the app.  I actually watched 2 movies back to back.  Instant family and Crazy Rich Asians.  I can't remember the last time I actually watched two movies in a row!
The service was incredible.  I felt like the flight attendants were attentive but they didn't hover.  It was a good balance.  After the Ipads and headsets were passed out, they came around with hot towels and cloth napkins to cover our tables.  The first course was drinks with a bowl of macadamia nuts.  They were crunchy, salty and perfect!
Next was the fruit course.  We were given real silverware and salt and pepper shakers.  The fruit was ripe and sweet.
The main course was a cheese and tomato quiche with sausage.  It was hot and flavorful.  The sausage was a bit spicy, but I like it. I did not need to add salt or pepper to either.
The last course was a chocolate hazelnut cheesecake.  I requested hot tea and they were more than happy to fulfil my wish.
Throughout the entire flight, our cups were always full of whatever we wanted. I loved the etching of the Hawaiian Airlines logo on the glasses.  Not having to wait in a long line for a restroom was nice as only 16 of us had to share the one up front.

Before I knew it, they were coming by with a bag of Maui chips, more Mai Tais and our declaration forms.  We arrived in Maui relaxed, well fed and ready to continue our vacation.

Flying first class was a treat.  And even though I realize this was more like business class, I enjoyed every minute of it, and to me, it was worth it.  I will never forget holding hands with my cute husband at 38,000 feet.  It was an incredible experience, amazing to celebrate, and one I would love to have again.

Life @ The Dahlhouse: Week 2

Not surprising, I already find myself very behind on weekly updates!  This was a goal I had this year... to consistently update my blog so that I have record of the events.  Are you like me, already struggling with your new year's goals?  The struggle is real!

Week 2 was CRAZY friends!  Monday came and BAM, 4 appointments that day.  Who does that?  I never plan on that happening, but sometimes, once in awhile, all the stars align.  LOL.  That Monday we had an orthodontist appointment, two doctors appointments in a row and a tutoring appointment.  I was wiped out.  And that little cherub spent a lot of time in waiting rooms that day.
Do you ever go through a season of life and you feel like it is a difficult one?  I am right there with you!  I told Mark the other day that we are in a tough season.  There is something BIG going on with everyone of my kiddos, and I am left feeling like I am just not ENOUGH most days.  How do you spread yourself out?  How do you make sure each one has there needs met?  Regardless, I get myself out of bed each morning and try again.

Miss B has been REALLY struggling.  Anxiety has set up shop in her little mind.  I'm telling you, it is like looking at a childhood version of myself.  So many of her struggles I relate to so much!  Separating from me leaves her almost panicky.  I leave her in the classroom each day, and walk home in tears myself.  I never let her see me cry, but I fight everything to not scoop her up and take her home with me.  Does anyone have any suggestions that help kiddos with anxiety?  I am all ears!
Some days are the perfect storm of organic applesauce and fast food chicken nuggets, while we sit in high school algebra class with the oldest.  I am not great at math.  I don't know much algebra.  But me showing up for him, that is the most important thing.  Even with a toddler in tow, who poops in the middle of class, we want Luke to know we are there for him.

*Luke goes to an AMAZING alternative learning school called River Homelink.  He attends class two full days a week and does classwork at home three days a week.  They are very parent welcoming and encourage parents to participate and even bring our pooping toddlers with us.  Haha!
Do you ever bribe your kiddos? If you do, you are MY people!! Confession, I bribe my kids!  To help Miss B get through the day, I promised her we would make cake pops.  So Friday night we made cake pops.  They are surprisingly easy to make.  They just take time, and make a slightly big mess, but WORTH it!

I ended the week at a VIPKID local meet up.  VIPKID is the online teaching company that I work for. It allows me to make extra income working around my schedule.  And as we know, I need a flexible work schedule (four appointments in one day). I teach English to Chinese students in a 1:1 environment.  I share more about my experience on the VIPKID page tab.

If you have ever wanted to teach online, ESL or work with VIPKID I would love to help you through the interview and hiring process.  Simply click this link VIPKID APPLY  .  Then send me an email misscarissa@hotmail.com, and let me know you applied and I will be in contact with you within 24 hours.

Life At The Dahlhouse: Disneyland Style

In November, we were able to take a family vacation to Disneyland and to visit my brother, David and sister, Katie.  We enjoyed several m...
